Oakland taxpayers must fund disability pensions for those in “excellent physical condition” working full-time elsewhere
Oakland taxpayers are required to fund so-called disability pensions for former law enforcement officers who are working full-time in law enforcement elsewhere, Transparent California has learned.
In 2014, Oakland made national headlines after it was discovered that an active FBI special agent was collecting a disability pension from the city.
All FBI special agents are required to pass a physical demonstrating that they are in “excellent physical condition with no disabilities” that would impede their ability to perform law enforcement duties, according to a CBS San Francisco report.
City officials promised to investigate, but the issue would fade from public view in the three years it would take the city to reach a conclusion.
